In mystical realization, they
call a God-realized person as Avatar. In
spiritualistic realization, they call the Self-realized person as Gnani.
A Gnani is the one, who is fully aware of the fact that the Self is not the form but the Self is formless consciousness, and he considers his body and his experience of the world as a mirage created out of the Soul or the consciousness.
The Soul is the Self. The Soul is present in the form of the Spirit. The Spirit is the ultimate truth or Brahman or God in truth.
Religious Gods are not God in truth. Gnani does not say God is not there, God is, but not as one imagines God. God is above all imagination.

God is used to indicate God in truth, which is Atman, the Brahman.

equivalent in English. The nearest is ultimate reality or ultimate truth. The West, however, applies reality to individual objects or to the multiplicity of them
all: whereas Advaitins apply it to the non-duality. Brahman is called "That"
because it is something not known yet by the seeker.

When the knower of Brahman (Gnani) wears no signs it means he does not
identify himself as a Guru or a Yogi or teacher or Swami.
Manduka Upanishads: - It is very difficult to find out who is a Gnani because he bears no external mark. Neither nudity nor the yellow robe has
anything to do with him.
A scholar is
proud that he has accumulated so much knowledge; Gnani is humble that he knows no more.
Sage Sri, Sankara's commentary to Brahma Sutras (Chap.3.4.50) shows that the Gnani
"should pass through life", not run away from life, and should take a
middle course between seeking worldly honor and worldly abasement.
Yoga Vasistha: The greatest Gnani: “His state is indescribable yet he
will move in the world like anybody else," ..." Though acting after
every feeling such as love, hate, fear and the like, he who stands unaffected
within is said to be real jivanmukta." Sankara's commentary.

A Gnani cannot have the idea of renouncing the world or giving up something of the practical world, because that would connote the idea of duality.

Duality is merely an
illusion from the ultimate standpoint. Knowing no second thing at all there remains
nothing to be given up.
A Gnani sees only unity in
diversity, just like a goldsmith estimating the gold in various items of jewelry
sees only gold.
When one identifies the Self with the form then only the form,
time and space are present. But when one transcends form, time, and space
the duality never remains as a reality.
A Gnani will never force anyone to accept the path of wisdom. He will constantly bring the seeker back to the fact of his inherent perfection and encourage him to seek the truth, which is beyond form, time, and space.

A Gnani knows you need
nothing, not even him, and is never tired of reminding you. A Gnani continuously shares Self-knowledge or
Bramha Gnana or Atma Gnana with like-minded fellow seekers.
If someone has acquired Self-knowledge and shares his acquired knowledge
with others, they cannot say that there is nothing for them to do.
Everyone has
to discover a fresh for himself by verifying all the facts. Each one has to
grasp assimilate and realize it until he gets a firm conviction of the ultimate
truth or Brahman or God in truth.
The mind appears due to ignorance. Without ignorance, the mind (I) ceases
to exist. Thus, the mind is in the form of the universe and appears as a waking or
dream.
The waking or dream is a state of duality. Thus seeker has to hold
wherever there is duality there is ignorance.
If duality is considered as reality then the experience of birth, life,
death, and the world are considered as reality.
If the experience of birth, life, death, and the world are considered as a reality the form, time, and space become
a reality.
If form, time, and space become reality as reality, then there is
diversity in unity. To bring back the unity in diversity, one has to put the
ego into reverse gear until he reaches the ultimate end or source from where the mind rises and subsides.

Sage Sankara says the transparent Truth of the Self, which is hidden by the illusion, is to be attained through the instructions of a knower of Brahman, (Gnani).
First, know ‘what is the truth’ and ‘what is untruth’ for sure. Without realizing what untruth truth is, it is difficult to know what truth is.

When the sky,
clouds, and the world in which you exist are made of single clay then there is
no second thing that exists, other than that clay. That clay is the Soul, which is formless, timeless, and spaceless existence.
Reality is hidden by the unreality. The world
in which we exist hides the truth.
Whatever belongs to you is unreal. The words and thoughts belong to you, not to the Soul, which is the ‘Self.'
Whatever has a name and form and attributes and
whatever belongs to form, time and space is an illusion. The illusion hides the
Spirit, which is God. The illusion and
Spirit are one in essence. Spirit, the
